Hurricane Florence, the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season made landfall near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina on September 14. Florence brought as significant amount of rain, surge and winds to North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia for days.
VA Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VA VOAD) members began coordinating with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and National VOAD through update calls and Situational Reports on September 9. Many of our members have worked tirelessly since then, helping communities to respond and recover from the disaster.
